GWALIOR 1 RUPEE – (TYPE 137) (CFS)

          The princely state of Gwalior was a large, powerful Maratha state in central and northern India, ruled by the Scindia dynasty from the mid-18th century until India’s independence in 1947.

          The state, with its capital in Gwalior, came under increasing British influence and lost territory after wars in the early 19th century, though it remained under the Scindia family’s rule. After India gained independence, Gwalior was absorbed into the new Indian state of Madhya Bharat in 1948 and later became part of the larger state of Madhya Pradesh.
